Stefan Schauwecker produces this outstanding site which functions both as a well-organized searchable directory of internet resources as well as a repository of original information about Japan. The Guide is broken up into 16 general categories such as Arts and Crafts, History, Language and Politics; each category is further subdivided into subcategory listings. Each page in the Guide has original text providing a general overview of the issue -- for example, the subsection on Traditional Music lists major musical genre with definitions, types of instruments used and other basic terminology -- as well as useful links to Japanese and English internet sources and related sections within the Guide. At the site, you can also post questions about Japan in an active forum and receive answers, or peruse the photo gallery. The local networking feature of the site is also available in Japanese.

It features information about hotels in Japan; you can search for accomodations by area using a metasearch and check the availability or book your hotel room online. The site mainly functions as a compilations of links on travel to Japan, but also offers original articles about Japan as well as a site on the Japanese language where you can test your knowledge of kanji! It functions well for those planning their first trip to Japan or people who just want to find out more about Japanese customs.

The website has grown into a major undertaking in both original content and link directories. Must-see sections of the site include a "Gateway" to a variety of information on Japan and an entertaining web portal for kids.
